January 9 (SeeNews) - Hungarian low-cost air carrier Wizz Air will launch flights from Romania's capital Bucharest to Santander in Spain on April 23, the company said on Wednesday.
The new service will be operated from Romania's biggest airport Henri Coanda two times a week - on Tuesdays and Saturdays, Wizz Air said in a press release.
With the new route added, Wizz Air will fly to nine destinations from Bucharest to Spain after Barcelona, Alicante, Madrid, Castellon, Malaga, Valencia, Tenerife and Zaragoza.
"2018 was a very good year, with a new dedicated airplane and five new Wizz Air routes from Bucharest. We start 2019 with the same good news with flights connecting Bucharest to Santande. This the ninth route from Bucharest to to Spain, a country with strong economic and social ties with Romania.The new route offers low-cost travel opportunities to both Romanians who visit the local community there as well as to tourists interested in discovering the northern area of Spain," Wizz Air.corporate communications head Tamara Vallois said.
In the first eleven months of 2018, Wizz Air carried over 7.5 million passengers on its low-priced routes in Romania, up 13% year-on-year.
Wizz now offers 145 routes to 22 countries from 10 airports in Romania, supporting more than 5,300 local jobs in the aviation, transport, hotel and tourism industries. For 2019, Wizz Air will put up for sale 9.4 million seats for flights to and from Romania, up by 8% compared to last year.
Wizz Air is operating in Romania with a young fleet of 25 aircraft including 5 new 230-seat Airbus A321.
