December 12 (SeeNews) - Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air said on Wednesday that it will base a second Airbus A320 aircraft at its Bulgarian base at Varna Airport in July next year, representing an investment of $100 million (88.2 million euro), and announced six new routes from the Bulgarian coastal city.
Starting in July 2019, Wizz Air will launch flights between Varna and Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin, Paris, Liverpool and Copenhagen, the company said in a statement.
The air carrier will operate three flights per week on the route to Liverpool and two weekly flights to each of the other five destinations.
The new Airbus A320 aircraft will be Wizz Air's ninth in Bulgaria. The low-cost carrier currently has seven aircraft based in Sofia and one in Varna.
In the first eleven months of the year, Wizz Air's passenger traffic to and from Varna airport grew 48% year-on-year, exceeding 400,000. In total, Wizz Air's passenger traffic to and from Bulgaria increased 17% to 2.8 million in the January-November period.
The six new routes from Varna Airport will bring the total number of routes operated by Wizz Air to and from Bulgaria to 49.
