PODGORICA (Montenegro), April 3 (SeeNews) – Hungarian low-cost air carrier Wizz Air said on Monday it launched its new service connecting Podgorica with Hungary’s capital Budapest.
The new route, with a schedule of two weekly frequencies, is the only direct connection between the two countries, and is expected to boost tourism and establish an important link for trade and business, encouraging investment in the country, Wizz Air said in a statement.
Wizz Air will operate the service on Monday and Friday this week. As of April 8, the flight will be operated every Wednesday and Sunday, the company said.
"We look forward to continuing to work with Podgorica International Airport and bring more affordable travel opportunities for our Montenegro passengers. Our friendly and dedicated team is looking forward to welcoming passengers onboard on Podgorica flights to enjoy Wizz Air’s lowest fares, easy booking system and excellent onboard experience," the communications manager at Wizz Air, Sorina Ratz, said in the statement.
The Budapest-Podgorica route represents a further expansion of Wizz Air’s ever-growing network into the Western Balkan region and demonstrates the airline’s commitment to Montenegro, the company said.
"The Podgorica-Budapest-Podgorica route is important not only for the Montenegrin tourism but also because of the better economic coordination between Montenegro and Hungary. We are also very satisfied that our partner Wizzair is developing their network and continue to connect Montenegro with European cities," adviser for public relations of executive director of Montenegro Airports, Milica Babic, said in the statement.
in December, Wizz Air announced it is expanding across the Western Balkans by launching flights out of Bosnia's Sarajevo, Kosovo's Pristina and Albania's Tirana for the first time, and introducing new routes out of Macedonia's Skopje and Podgorica to Budapest.
Wizz Air’s first low-fare services landed in Montenegro in August 2016 with two destinations from Podgorica to Munich Memmingen and Milan Malpensa.
