January 25 (SeeNews) - Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air said on Wednesday that it registered over 2.6 million passengers in Bulgaria in 2022, up from 1.4 million in 2021.
The 2022 number surpassed the level before the COVID-19 pandemic, Wizz Air said in an emailed statement.
The most popular route from Bulgaria last year was the one from capital Sofia to Israel’s Tel Aviv.
Wizz Air has provided 400,000 additional seats for sale on the Bulgarian market after expanding its network to, from and within Bulgaria by 48% in 2022. At the same time, the company increased its cabin crew in the country by nearly 30% last year and plans to continue to expand its staff in 2023.
At the end of 2022, Wizz Air added one more plane to its base in Sofia and launched new routes to Stockholm in Sweden and Hamburg in Germany.
“We currently offer a total of 1.7 million seats on 60 routes to 20 countries to Bulgarian clients and expect to grow even further in 2023,” Tamara Nikiforova, corporate communications manager at Wizz Air Group, commented in the statement.
