September 14 (SeeNews) - Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air said on Thursday that it has reached the milestone of 80 million transported passengers in Romania since the start of its operations in the country in 2006.
Wizz Air has made strategic investments worth 3.5 billion euro ($3.75 billion) in Romania thus far, it said in a press release.
Over its 17 years of activity in the Romania, the airline contributed to the creation of 60,000 jobs in related industries and managed a network spanning 75 destinations across 24 countries
In a separate press release, Wizz Air announced on Thursday it will increase by 100 the number of its flights from the Henri Coanda Airport in Bucharest in October. Namely, the Larnaca, Lisbon, Malaga, Barcelona, Naples, Basel, Tenerife, Abu Dhabi, and Milano routes will benefit from more flights next month.
Last week, the airline announced its decision to close its base in the northern Romanian city of Suceava in order to to focus on inbound flying.
Wizz Air operates more than 5,000 flights per month to 24 countries from six Romanian bases - Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Iasi, Craiova, and Sibiu.
