BUCHAREST (Romania), March 2 (SeeNews) - Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air said that it is reducing the number of flights to destinations in Italy from Romania, Moldova and eleven other countries, due to low demand and cancellations caused by the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Wizz Air made the decision due to the decreasing demand on its Italian routes caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, it said in a press release on Friday.
The realignment of the flight schedule has resulted in significant cancellations on specific routes to northern Italy between March 11 and April 2, 2020. During this period around 60% of total Italian capacity has been cut, WizzAir said.
A total of 30 flights from the Romanian cities of Bucharest, Cluj, Craiova, Iasi, Suceava, Timisoara and Iasi to Milan, Rome, Treviso, Bologna, Bari, Catania, Naples, Pisa, and Torino have been affected, Wizz said.
Wizz Air also reduced the number of flights from Moldovan capital Chisinau to Milan, Rome, Torino, Treviso and Verona.
Elsewhere in Southeastern Europe, Wizz Air has also decided to reduce the frequency of flights from Albania, Bulgaria and Montenegro to affected areas in Italy, the company said.
According to the airline, passengers with bookings affected by this change are automatically informed and accommodated on an alternative route at the earliest possible date but at least 14 days prior to the original date of the flight.
