March 1 (SeeNews) - Hungarian low-cost air carrier Wizz Air confirmed media reports that it will launch three new routes from Skopje.
"We will fly from Skopje to Malta, Rome Ciampino, and Vaxjo starting July, thanks to adding a fourth aircraft to our Skopje base," the air carrier said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
Data from Wizz Air's website show that flights will start from July 14 and will be operated twice a week.
On February 28 the company celebrated three million passengers carried to and from Macedonia, Wizz Air also said in its Facebook post.
According to news portal Ex-Yu Aviation, the fourth aircraft joining Wizz Air's Skopje fleet represents an investment of 99 million euro. It creates additional 36 jobs, making the total of Wizz's employees in Macedonia 150, Ex-Yu Aviation reported quoting Wizz Air's Chief Corporate Officer, Owain Jones, who was speaking at a press conference on Tuesday.
Wizz Air will boost frequencies on existing routes to Basel, Bratislava, Cherleroi, Copenhagen, Eindhoven, Malmo, and Memmingen, Ex-Yu Aviation added.
"Our investment into the Skopje base with an additional aircraft, three new routes and increased frequencies on existing flights means more jobs in Macedonia with both Wizz and our business partners and will further stimulate the tourism and hospitality industries and strengthen Macedonia’s business relations," Jones said, as quoted by Ex-Yu Aviation.
In Macedonia, the low-cost carrier currently operates services to 17 European destinations. Starting from April, the air carrier will also operate a regular Skopje-Budapest flight.
