April 7 (SeeNews) - US-based Westinghouse Electric Company has signed memorandums of understanding with Slovenian companies Numip, Elmont and Sipro to cooperate in the development of potential AP1000 nuclear power plant projects across Central and Eastern Europe, it said.
"These partnerships will enable us to work hand-in-hand with leading local suppliers to deliver the highest international standards of quality, safety, and reliability in Slovenia and within Europe,” Elias Gedeon, senior vice president of commercial operations at Westinghouse Energy Systems, said in a statement on Wednesday.
Numip delivers engineering, construction and maintenance services for conventional power and processes across various industries, Elmont provides ongoing support for the maintenance of electrical equipment, while Sipro brings project planning and management solutions, technology, and product development support, according to the statement.
In January, Westinghouse said it signed MOUs with ten companies in Poland covering cooperation on the potential deployment of six AP1000 plants for the Polish Nuclear Power Plant programme and other potential AP1000 reactor projects in Central and Eastern Europe.
AP1000 is a nuclear power plant designed and sold by Westinghouse, first commissioned at China's Sanmen Nuclear Power Station in 2018. The plant operates a pressurised water reactor with improved use of passive nuclear safety and design features intended to lower its capital cost.
