November 16 (SeeNews) - German electrical engineering company Weidmuller has started works on two new production halls in Romania's western county of Maramures, where it plans to hire 500, the county council said.
The two units will be Weidmuller's seventh and eight production plants in the town of Tautii Magheraus, Maramures county council said in a press release on Tuesday.
With this new constructions, the company expands its footprint by 6,800 sq m, and after the completion of the works, Weidmuller Tauti will have a total area of 21,800 sq m, which will make it the largest production site within the German group.
The new investments, whose value was not disclosed, will help create 500 new jobs.
Weidmueller entered Romania in 1997 through a sales unit and opened the first production site in the country in 2005. Weidmuller Interface Romania employed 940 at the end of 2021, according to data from the finance ministry.
Its net profit rose 48% on the year to 12.25 million lei ($2.6 million/ 2.5 million euro) in 2021, while turnover was 19% higher on the year, reaching 317 million lei, finance ministry data indicated.
Weidmueller has six manufacturing plants, 31 sales companies and more than 60 representations all around the world. In 2021, the group's sales amounted to 960 million euro ($1 billion), according to its website.
