December 9 (SeeNews) - The Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) approved 57.6 million euro ($60.9 million) of grants to Kosovo for the implementation of projects for social housing, a solar park and central heating in the capital, the office of Kosovo's prime minister said.
The WBIF will provide a 33.07 million euro investment grant for the development of a solar power plant by state-controlled power corporation KEK, worth a total of 103.33 million euro, the prime minister's office said in a press release on Thursday.
Furthermore, Kosovo will receive a grant of 22.47 million euro for a central heating project in Pristina worth a total of 76.368 million euro. The WBIF will also provide a 2.08 million euro grant for a project for social housing worth a total of 47.5 million euro.
The projects will be implemented in combination with loans that will be obtained from the Development Bank of the Council of Europe (CEB), the German Development Bank (KfW), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), the statement read.
The Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) is a joint initiative of the EU, financial institutions and bilateral donors, which aims to increase cooperation and coordination in terms of investments aimed at socio-economic development and contributing to the European perspective of countries of the Western Balkans.
