BELGRADE (Serbia), January 28 (SeeNews) – Serbian wireless carrier Vip Mobile, a unit of Telekom Austria Group, said on Thursday it has launched the country's first 4G+ signal.
Vip's 4G + technology is obtained through a combination of frequency channels in the 800MHz and 1800MHz range and allows for the simultaneous use of multiple channels for the exchange between mobile phones and their base stations, hence increasing speed for end-users, the company said in a statement.
In Vip 4G + network the maximum speed for downloading data, applications and multimedia reaches 225 Mbps, while the average amounts to about 150 Mbps, the company explained.
At the moment, VIP's 4G+ network is available to customers with existing 4G SIM cards in parts of New Belgrade and Pancevo.
The company is also currently working on the extension of its 4G Long-term Evolution (LTE) network throughout Serbia and plans to cover 40% of the population by end 2016.
Besides Vip Mobile, the wireless operations of Telekom Austria Group include Bulgaria's Mobiltel, Belarussian Velcom, Mobilkom Austria, Croatia's Vipnet, Slovenia's Si.mobil and Macedonia's Vip Operator.
In Serbia, a country of 7.3 million people, Vip Mobile competes with state-owned MTS and the local arm of Norway's Telenor.
