CHISINAU (Moldova), September 30 (SeeNews) – The United States will allocate $262 million (179 million euro) to help the development of Moldova's irrigation system and the rehabilitation of its roads, Moldova’s Farm Ministry said.
The funds, to be provided under the U.S. government's Compact programme, include a $133 million grant for roads rehabilitation and a further $102 million for the development of Moldova’s irrigation system, the ministry said in a statement. The remaining will be used to cover costs connected to feasibility studies and project management, it said.
The ministry added that the financial aid is pending approval by U.S. congressmen.
A Compact is a multi-year agreement between the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a U.S. government corporation designed to work with some of the world's poorest countries, and an eligible country to fund specific programs targeted at reducing poverty and stimulating economic growth.
