January 25 (SeeNews) - Flag carrier Air Serbia said it has been named 2017 Airline Market Leader by US monthly magazine Air Transport World (ATW) for its growth during the last three years.
ATW’s editorial team chose Air Serbia "for its phenomenal progress during the last three years, which culminated in the launch of non-stop flights to New York, making the company the only carrier from Southeastern Europe (SEE) to offer transatlantic flights to the United States, the Belgrade-based carrier said in a statement on Tuesday.
Air Serbia was recognised for its innovative products and services and sound business strategies which have differentiated it from competitors in SEE, while at the same time growing its network, revenue, customer base and brand recognition.
“Flying to the US has been one of our major aspirations from day one, and this award is a tribute to the commitment and dedication of our people at Air Serbia who made it happen," CEO Dane Kondic said in the statement.
The Airline Market Leader award will be presented to Air Serbia at the ATW’s 43rd Annual Airline Industry Achievement Awards gala night, set to take place in New York on March 28.
Air Serbia launched regular flights between Belgrade and New York in June 2016, the first direct flight connection between Serbia and the United States in 24 years. The route is serviced five times a week by a 254-seat Airbus A330 wide-body twin-engine jet airliner.
