February 27 (SeeNews) - American action cameras maker GoPro said on Monday it will open an office in Romania's capital Bucharest as of March 1, where they will hire 100 people by the end of the year.
The office in Bucharest will focus on software engineering, developing GoPro's web platforms and e-commerce, the company said in a press release.
The company will organise a recruiting event on March 8 and 9 to start forming the local team, it added.
"The decision to expand GoPro's software engineering operations in Bucharest is in line with our 2017 priorities: strengthening operations execution and cost management," operations director Charles Prober said.
GoPro, founded in 2002, manufactures action cameras and develops its own mobile apps and video-editing software.
The company also developed a quadcopter drone, Karma, released in October 2016 after various delays, amid softening demand for its cameras.
At the end of 2016, GoPro said that it plans to axe about 200 full-time jobs as well as a shutdown of its entertainment division in exchange for enlarging its media activities with an increase of original productions of video content.
GoPro struggled with a net loss of $104.1 million (95.7 million) in the third quarter of 2016, against a net profit of $18.8 million a year before.
At the end of 2015, international tech media speculated the acquisition of GoPro by multinational technology giant Apple.
