BELGRADE (Serbia), May 13 (SeeNews) – US-based heat transfer products manufacturer Modine plans to move to Serbia a total of 30 jobs of its Italian subsidiary Modine CIS Italy, according to Italian media reports.
Modine Manufacturing Company plans to relocate to Serbia a production line from its factory in Pocenia, in northern Italy, daily newspaper Messaggero Veneto quoted Gianpaolo Roccasalva, a representative of Fiom-Cgil trade union, as saying on Friday.
"There are still no guarantees for the employees who will be affected by the announced transfer of a processing line to Serbia, which will involve about thirty workers," Roccasalva said.
Modine operates a factory for heating and cooling equipment in Sremska Mitrovica, in northern Serbia, which employs about 230 people. In April 2018, Serbian public broadcaster RTS reported that the company was expanding its production facility.
"We asked for information regarding the transfer of a production line to Serbia and received reassurances that this is a strategic choice, which is limited to a product whose manufacturing the company considers unreasonable from an economic point of view in Italy," Messaggero Veneto quoted Mauro Bordin, the leader of political party Lega Nord in the Council of Italy's region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, as saying.
Modine set foot in Serbia in November 2016 after acquiring the factory of Finnish company Luvata in Sremska Mitrovica. The company designs, manufactures and tests heat transfer products for a wide variety of applications and markets.
