November 4 (SeeNews) - US-based medical technology company Zimmer Biomet Holdings said on Friday that it plans to invest 3.5 million euro ($3.43 million) in its operations on the Romanian market and open a local branch in 2023.
The investment will cover logistical expenses, such as a new office and a warehouse, along with costs associated with building a local team of at least 25 people and securing equipment stocks, Zimmer said in a press release.
The local headquarters is scheduled to open in January 2023 in Bucharest.
The company will transition from being represented by local distributors to direct representation, expanding its product and medical education portfolios, and introducing a series of integrated digital and robotics technologies.
Romania is one of the biggest Central European markets and a significant customer base for Zimmer Biovet," company president Wilfred VanZuilen said.
Established in Indiana in 1927, Zimmer Biomet currently employs 17,000 people and has offices in over 31 countries.
The company has been present on the Romanian market since 2005 through medical equipment distributors. Its local client portfolio is comprised of private and state clinics, as well as hospitals and specialized universities.
Zimmer Biomet Romania had four employees at the end of 2021 and booked a net profit of 2.77 million lei ($555,842/567,704 euro), according to data published on the finance ministry’s website.
