September 12 (SeeNews) - Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport resumed normal work in early Wednesday afternoon following an accident with an incoming Egypt Air flight that left its runway blocked for several hours, the airport operator Aerodrom Nikola Tesla [BEL:AERO] said.
The Egypt Air aircraft was successfully removed from the runway, Sasa Vlaisavljevic, director general of Aerodrom Nikola Tesla, said in a video file posted on the website of Serbian public broadcaster RTS.
"The essence is that before the middle of the day we managed to go towards normality, without consequences for the people," Vlaisavljevic said.
A total of 180 and charter operations are planned for Wednesday, while five scheduled flights - of Austrian Airlines to Vienna, of Turkish Airlines to Istanbul, of Swiss Airlines to Zurich and of Wizz Air to Dortmund and Malta - are cancelled, Vlaisavljevic said.
Belgrade airport was temporarily closed on Wednesday morning after an Egypt Air jet operating a charter flight landed with burst tires, blocking the runway, the executive director of Aerodrom Nikola Tesla, Zarko Suvacarov, said earlier.
The aircraft carried no passengers and no crew members were injured during the accident.
