January 20 (SeeNews) - Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air said on Monday that it will start flights from Romania's capital Bucharest and Sofia's capital Sofia to Saint Petersburg in Russia in July.
The route to Bucharest will be operated three times per week - on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays - starting on July 1, Wizz Air said in a press release.
The route from Sofia too will be operated three times a week, starting on July 2, Wizz Air said in another statement.
Wizz Air will become the only company operating flights from Sofia to Saint Petersburg, it added.
In December, Wizz Air announced that it plans to allocate a new aircraft to its base in Bucharest and to launch two new routes, to Prague and Seville, in July 2020.
A new Airbus A321 aircraft will be allocated to Wizz Air's Bucharest base in July, taking the total number of aircraft in the Bucharest base to 13, while the total number of Wizz Air aircraft in Romania will reach 30. The number of employees will rise to 1,100, Wizz Air said at the time.
Wizz Air now offers 148 routes to 20 countries from 10 airports in Romania.
Wizz Air, which started operations in Bulgaria in 2005, currently operates 49 routes from three Bulgarian airports - Sofia, Varna and Burgas. The air carrier has nine aircraft based in Bulgaria - seven in Sofia and two in Varna.
