January 11 (SeeNews) - Romania's December consumer prices rose by 0.23% month-on-month and were 3.14% higher than a year earlier, the country's statistics office said on Wednesday.
Food prices were up 0.36% on the month in December, mainly due to a 2.25% jump in the prices of fresh and canned vegetables. Prices of fresh and canned fruit fell by a monthly 2.3%, Romania's statistics office, INS, said in a statement.
Non-food prices increased by a monthly 0.13% in December, lifted by a 2.05% rise in thermal energy prices.
Prices in the services sector were up by 0.26% month-on-month due to a 2.51% rise in the tariffs for water supply and waste services. Telecommunication services tariffs dipped by 0.05% in December.
Romania’s end-2011 inflation is within the central bank’s target band of 2.0%-4.0% and slightly below the lender’s latest forecast of 3.3%.
In November, the country's consumer price index (CPI) rose by a monthly 0.42% and increased by 3.44% year-on-year.
The annual average inflation was 5.8% in 2011.

Romania's end-year inflation accelerated to nearly 8.0% in 2010 from 4.7% in 2009.
