February 17 (SeeNews) - Orange Romania, the local unit of France Telecom's Internet and mobile arm Orange, said on Tuesday its revenues fell by 2.7% to 909 million euro ($1 billion) in 2014, mainly hurt by a cut in interconnection tariffs.
Excluding the impact of the interconnection tariff cut, 2014 revenues were 4.2% higher on the year, Orange Romania said in a statement.
In the fourth quarter alone, the operator generated revenues worth 233 million euro.
Orange Romania had 10.531 million clients at the end of 2014, up by some 95,000 on the year.
The operator also said its 4G network is the most wide-ranging in Romania, covering 92% of urban population and 62% of all population at the end of 2014.
Mobile Internet traffic jumped 85% on the year and sales of 4G tablets and smartphones surged four-fold in the fourth quarter alone, Orange Romania said.
In a separate statement, Orange Group said the average revenue per user (ARPU) in Romania was 6.2 euro per month in the fourth quarter, down from 6.3 euro in the previous quarter and from 6.5 euro in the fourth quarter of 2013.
Romania’s market of just over 20 million is served by a total of five mobile operators - Orange Romania; Telekom Romania, former Cosmote Romania; RCS&RDS; Vodafone Romania; and 2K Telecom.
