January 18 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's consumer prices edged up 0.1% year-on-year in December following a 0.4% increase in November, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Monday.
On a monthly comparison basis, consumer prices rose by 0.5% in December, after adding 0.1% in the previous month, NSI said in a monthly inflation report.
The average annual inflation in 2020 was 1.7%.
The year-on-year rise in the consumer price index (CPI) in December was supported by a 1.9% increase in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which have the largest weight in the consumer basket.
Prices in the transport sector, which have the third largest weight in the consumer price index, fell the most in December - by 9.4% year-on-year.
The subindex tracking the other major category - housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, rose by 0.9% on the year.
Bulgaria’s EU-harmonised consumer price index (HICP) remained unchanged on an annual comparison basis in December and edged up 0.5% compared to the November level.
