July 15 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria inaugurated on Monday the last section of Trakiya, the motorway connecting Sofia with the Black Sea city of Burgas, after an investment of 209.6 million levs ($140 million/107 million euro), the national agency for road infrastructure said in a press release.
The 34-kilometre section between Zimnitsa and Karnobat has 30 large facilities such as bridges over three rivers, underpasses and overpasses, the agency added in the press release sent on Monday. The project was started in October 2010 and was co-financed under EU cohesion fund and operational programme Transport 2007-2013.
The opening of the last section marks the completion of the 360-kilometre motorway and increases the average speed from 68 kilometres/hour to 101-105 kilometres/hour. The total amount invested in the final 115 kilometre stretch of the highway, comprising lots 2,3 and 4, was 670 million levs, out of which 514 million levs from the EU Cohesion Fund, the press release added.
The motorway, part of Transeuropean Transport Corridor VIII, is the first completed highway in the country.
