May 24 (SeeNews) - Austrian insurance group UNIQA said on Wednesday its pre-tax profit from operations in Albania fell 7.7% year-on-year to 1.2 million euro ($1.3 million) in the first quarter of 2017.
Total gross written premiums from operations in Albania added 19% on the year, reaching 8 million euro, UNIQA said in its first quarter financial report.
Gross written premiums in the non-life insurance segment totalled 6.4 million euro, up 20% on the year, premiums from life insurance grew 32% to 1.2 million euro, while those from health insurance declined 15% to 400,000 euro.

In Southeastern Europe (SEE), UNIQA also operates in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia. The group recorded a pre-tax profit of 4.1 million euro in the region (Romanian operations excluded) in the first quarter of 2017, up from 3.2 million euro a year earlier.
