March 9 (SeeNews) - Austrian insurance group UNIQA said on Thursday its pre-tax profit from operations in Macedonia was 700,000 euro ($738,300) last year, flat compared to 2015.
Total gross written premiums from operations in Macedonia added 4% to 12.5 million euro in 2016, UNIQA said in its annual financial report.
Gross written premiums in the non-life insurance segment increased 2% to 11 million euro. Premiums from life insurance rose 22% to 1.2 million euro, while premiums from health insurance totalled 300,000 euro, up 15%.
UNIQA Skopje is the successor of the Macedonian unit of Albania's Sigal.
In Southeastern Europe (SEE), UNIQA operates also in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, and Croatia. The group swung to a pre-tax loss of 3.6 million euro from operations in the SEE region in 2016, from a pre-tax profit of 10.1 million euro in 2015.
