November 16 (SeeNews) - Austrian insurance group UNIQA said on Thursday its pre-tax profit from operations in Macedonia fell to 300,000 euro ($353,300) in the first nine months of 2017 from 500,000 euro in the prior-year period.
Total gross written premiums from operations in Macedonia during the January-September period edged down 1% year-on-year to 9.7 million euro, UNIQA said in an interim financial report.
Gross written premiums in the non-life insurance segment fell 3% on the year to 8.6 million euro, while premiums from life insurance rose by an annual 16% to 900,000 euro. Premiums from health insurance dropped 1% to 200,000 euro.
UNIQA Skopje is successor to the Macedonian unit of Albania's Sigal.
In Southeast Europe, UNIQA also operates in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia. The group's pre-tax profit in the region - excluding Romania - fell to 9.2 million euro in the first nine months of 2017 from 10.6 million euro in the like period of 2016.
