November 24 (SeeNews) - Austrian insurance group UNIQA said on Thursday its pre-tax loss in Romania increased to 2.8 million euro ($2.96 million) in the first nine months of 2016, compared to a loss of 1.4 million euro in the same period last year.
Total gross written premiums from operations in Romania grew 29% to 87.2 million euro in 2016 through September, UNIQA said in its nine-month financial report.
Gross written premiums in the non-life insurance segment rose 32% on the year to 78.7 million euro. Gross written premiums from life-insurance totalled 8.4 million euro in the nine-month period, up 12%, while premiums in the health segment rose 2% to 100,000 euro.
UNIQA is the second-largest insurance group in Austria with a market share of around 22%. It operates in 15 markets in Central and Eastern Europe. In southeast Europe, UNIQA operates in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Romania, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro.
