November 16 (SeeNews) - Austrian insurance group UNIQA said on Thursday it turned to a pre-tax profit of 800,000 euro ($944,469) from operations in Kosovo in the first nine months of 2017, from a pre-tax loss of 800,000 euro in the like period of last year.
Total gross written premiums from operations in Kosovo fell 15% on the year to 7.8 million euro in the January- September period, the insurer said in an interim financial report.
Gross written premiums in the non-life insurance segment declined 9% on the year to 5.8 million euro, while premiums from life insurance fell by an annual 17% to 500,000 euro. Health insurance premiums decreased 32% year-on-year to 1.5 million euro.
The UNIQA Group is represented in Kosovo by two companies: SIGAL UNIQA Group AUSTRIA and SIGAL Life UNIQA Group AUSTRIA.
In Southeast Europe, UNIQA also operates in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia. The group's pre-tax profit in the region - excluding Romania - rose to 6.7 million euro in the first half of 2017 from 6.2 million euro in the prior-year period.
