BUCHAREST (Romania), April 10 (SeeNews) – Austrian insurance group UNIQA said on Wednesday its pre-tax loss from operations in Romania widened to 500,000 euro ($563,678) in 2018 from 400,000 euro in the prior year.
Total gross written premiums from operations in Romania fell 4.8% year-on-year to 92.9 million euro in 2018, UNIQA said in a presentation of its preliminary results for last year.
"With the exception of Romania, all markets in Central and Eastern Europe recorded a significant increase in premiums in 2018 in the non-life insurance sector," Uniqa said.
UNIQA Romania's gross written premiums in the non-life insurance segment decreased by 10.9% to 75.9 million euro, while premiums from life insurance increased by an annual 37.4% to 16.8 million euro. In health insurance, gross written premiums fell 6% to 200,000 euro.
UNIQA group operates approximately 40 companies in 18 countries and serves more than 9.6 million customers. In Southeast Europe, UNIQA operates in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Romania, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro.
