BUCHAREST (Romania), March 9 (SeeNews) – Austrian insurance group UNIQA said on Thursday its pre-tax loss from operations in Romania widened to 5.7 million euro ($6.01 million) in 2016 from 2.4 million euro a year earlier.
Total gross written premiums from operations in Romania increased 27% to 117 million euro in 2016, UNIQA said in its annual financial report.
Gross written premiums in the non-life insurance segment amounted to 106.2 million euro, up 30% on the year. Premiums from life insurance increased by an annual 5% to 10.6 million euro in 2016. In health insurance, gross written premiums grew an impressive 70% to 300,000 euro.
The parent group's operating result dropped 56.1% on the year to 225.5 million euro in 2016, UNIQA said.
UNIQA is the second-largest insurance group in Austria with a market share of around 22%. It operates in 15 markets in Central and Eastern Europe. In Southeast Europe, UNIQA operates in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Romania, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro.
