BUCHAREST (Romania), August 23 (SeeNews) – Austrian insurance group UNIQA said on Wednesday its pre-tax loss from operations in Romania narrowed to 200,000 euro ($230,000) in the first six months of 2017 from 400,000 euro a year earlier.
Total gross written premiums from operations in Romania fell 3% year-on-year to 51 million euro in the January-June period, UNIQA said in its first half financial report.
UNIQA Romania's gross written premiums in the non-life insurance segment decreased to 45.1 million euro, down 4% on the year. Premiums from life insurance increased by an annual 8% to 5.8 million euro in the six months through June. In health insurance, gross written premiums were zero in the first half of the year.
UNIQA's pre-tax loss from operations in Romania widened to 5.7 million euro last year from 2.4 million euro in 2015.
UNIQA group operates approximately 40 companies in 18 countries and serves more than 10 million customers. In Southeast Europe, UNIQA operates in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Romania, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro. The group's pre-tax profit rose 10.3% on the year to 95.5 million euro in the first half of 2017.
