March 9 (SeeNews) - Austrian insurance group UNIQA said on Thursday it turned to a break-even pre-tax result in 2016, from a 600,000 euro ($632,898) pre-tax loss a year earlier.
Total gross written premiums from operations in Montenegro fell by 1% on the year to 12.3 million euro in the review period, the insurer said in its annual financial report.
Gross written premiums in the non-life insurance segment fell to 9.6 million euro, down 1%, whereas premiums from life insurance dropped 6% to 1.8 million euro.
In the health insurance sector in Montenegro, UNIQA booked a rise of 23% in gross written premiums, to 800,000 euro.
The UNIQA Group is represented in Montenegro by two companies - UNIQA zivotno osiguranje and UNIQA nezivotno osiguranje.
In Southeast Europe (SEE), UNIQA also operates in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia. The company's operation in the region - excluding Romania - recorded a pre-tax loss of 3.6 million euro in 2016, compared to a pre-tax profit of 10.1 million euro in 2015.
