July 25 (SeeNews) - The UK has declared persona non-grata former president and prime minister of Albania, Sali Berisha, due to involvement in organised crime and corruption, Albanian media reported.
The UK claims Berisha is involved in corrupt acts and has a clear connection to organised crime and crime groups who pose a risk to public safety in the UK and Albania, which he is thought to be willing to use to advance his political ambitions, news provider Exit reported on Friday, quoting Berisha as saying in a statement.
Berisha has denied all claims, the report reads.
The British embassy in Albania said last week that the UK has taken disruptive action against several Albanian individuals with ties to criminality and corruption, without revealing any names.
The US State Department last year imposed an entry ban to Berisha and his family due to involvement in corruption while in service.
Berisha served as president of Albania from 1992 to 1997 and prime minister from 2005 to 2013.
