November 17 (SeeNews) - US-based multinational online transportation network company Uber Technologies Inc. said on Thursday it expanded its services in Romania to the city of Brasov and Timisoara will come next.
Brasov, in central Romania, is the third city in the country, in which the service was launched after Bucharest in 2015 and Cluj at the beginning of August 2016.
Timisoara, in western Romania, is Uber's next target for expansion of its services, the tech startup said in a press release.
"We see great interest from people living in Timisoara, so we hope to be present there soon. Timisoara drivers who want to earn extra by sharing their car with other passengers are invited to register and become Uber partner drivers," the company added.
“Now we are also in Brasov and we are offering an option of mobility that is safe and trustworthy for users, while offering a flexible economic opportunity for drivers that want to become partner,” general manager of Uber Romania, Nicoleta Schroeder, said.
There are approximately 120,000 people who use the application in Bucharest and Cluj, according to local startup online portal Start-up.ro. The population of the two cities totals 2.2 million combined.
With Romanian authorities still working on a legal framework to regulate the ride-sharing industry in Romania, Uber had to fight several legal battles to be able to operate in Bucharest and Cluj.
