November 5 (SeeNews) - UAE-based diversified international business conglomerate Thumbay Group plans to invest 250 million euro ($285 million) in the establishment of a medical university, a campus and a hospital in Belgrade, the Serbian government has said.
The total number of employees at the Gulf Medical University and Thumbay Hospital in Serbia's capital is planned at about 5,000 and will include technical staff, nurses and technicians as well as doctors of various specialisaties, the government said in a statement on Sunday.
Last month, Thubmay Group said it signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Serbian government to establish a Gulf Medical University and a Thumbay Hospital in Belgrade.
The project will be developed in phases, and is expected to be fully operational in 2020, the company said in October.
Thumbay Group owns and operates the biggest private medical university in the Middle East, the Gulf Medical University (GMU) in Ajman, the UAE. Thumbay Hospital is the biggest private academic hospital network in the region, operating under the healthcare division of Thumbay Group and serving patients from around 175 nationalities.
