May 5 (SeeNews) - A consortium comprising Turkish companies Makyol and Yapi Merkezi has won a 1.19 billion lei ($266.3/241.5 million euro) tender for the construction of a segment of the Sibiu-Fagaras motorway stretch, Cristian Pistol, director general at Romania's road infrastructure company CNAIR, said on Friday.
The project involves designing and building the 16.26 km long motorway segment, as well as a 5.6 km long connecting road, Pistol said in a social media post.
Funds will be secured from Romania’s Transport Porgramme, which amounts to a 9.6 billion euro, 48.3% of which constitutes EU funds, while the remainder consists of a national contribution, according to latest data from the country’s ministry for investments and European projects.
The project has a four-year duration, including one year for the design stage and three years for the construction works..
The contract can be signed ten days after the winning bidder has been announced, provided no appeals or complaints are submitted, transport minister Sorin Grindeanu said in a separate social media post on Friday.
Makyol Insaat Sanayi Turizm ve Ticaret is part of Turkey’s Makyol Group, which is specialised in heavy construction and infrastructure, commercial real estate, housing development and tourism investments.
Founded in 1965, Yapi Merzeki Insaat ve Sanayi is part of Turkey’s Yapi Merzeki Group and is specialised in the design and construction of a wide variety of buildings, heavy construction, and railway projects.
