December 3 (SeeNews) - Turkish car maker Ford Otomotiv Sanayi [IST:FROTO], jointly owned by Ford Motor Company and Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding AS [IST:KCHOL] will set up an electric vehicle (EV) battery assembly plant in the Kocaeli province, local media reported.
Alongside its other factories in this northwestern Turkish province, Ford Otomotiv Sanayi will have the first integrated electric vehicle production plant in the country, Anadolu Agency quoted the company's general manager, Haydar Yenigun, as saying on Wednesday.
The EV battery assembly plant will be completed in 2022, Yenigun added.
Ford Otomotiv Sanayi announced last month that it would produce the first all-electric version of Ford's Transit light commercial vehicle.
The company, established in 1959, employs about 11,000 people in its plants in Kocaeli and Eskisehir and its R&D centre and spare parts warehouse in Istanbul.
