September 20 (SeeNews) - Turkish renewable energy company Borusan EnBW Energy said it has started the construction of a 50 megawatt (MW) wind farm in the northwestern Turkish province of Tekirdag.
The Balabanli park will have 22 wind turbines and is expected to come online in the end of 2014, bringing Borusan EnBW Energy's total installed renewable energy capacity to 160 MW, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
Borusan EnBW Energy has so far invested some $300 million (222 million euro) in the renewable energy sector in Turkey. In 2013 and 2014, the company will launch renewable energy investments worth $1.3 billion, its general manager Mehmet Acarla said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Balabanli project, held on September 18.
The next renewable project in the pipeline is a 30 MW wind farm in Izmir province. The company also plans to build two wind farms of 50 MW each in the provinces of Canakkale and Bursa and to launch a 138 MW wind project in Gulf of Saroz, northwestern Turkey, in 2014.
Borusan EnBW Energy plans to have 455 MW of installed wind power capacity in the medium term and 1,000 MW in the long term.
Borusan EnBEW Energy is a joint venture between Turkish conglomerate Borusan Holding and German utility EnBW. Its portfolio also includes hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 280 MW.
