ANKARA (Turkey), February 24 (SeeNews) – Turkey has signed a final agreement to purchase helicopters from U.S. aircraft producer Skiorsky for $3.5 billion (2.5 billion euro), Turkish media reported.
The agreement envisages the assembly of 109 Sikorsky helicopters in Turkey, local broadcaster CNN Turk said on Saturday citing Turkey’s prime minister Recep Erdogan.
Local defence companies Turkish Aerospace Industries and Aselsan will produce parts for the helicopters.
Turkey will have the capacity to produce all the parts of the helicopters, CNN Turk said citing Sikorsky’s president Mick Maurer.
Turkey and Sikorsky started contract negotiations regarding the helicopter purchase in 2011.
