June 1 (SeeNews) - Turkey's transport and infrastructure minister Adil Karaismailoglu said that domestic passenger flights will resume as of June 1, following a coronavirus pause, local media reported.
Flights from Istanbul to major cities of Ankara, Izmir, Antalya and Trabzon provinces will resume first, while other flights will be relaunched gradually, Anadolu Agency quoted Karaismailoglu as saying on Saturday.
Flag carrier Turkish Airlines [IST:THYAO] suspended all of its domestic flights as of April 3 due to the coronavirus outbreak. On May 20 the company said domestic flights will remain grounded until June 4, while international flights will be suspended until June 10.
Turkey-based airline SunExpress plans to resume domestic flights as of June 4 following their suspension on March 28 due to the coronavirus outbreak, local media reported last week.
In March, Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered the suspension of all international flights to and from the country in an effort to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
Turkey registered 163,942 coronavirus infections as of Sunday, with the death toll reaching 4,540, the country's directorate of communications said.
