July 29 (SeeNews) - The Sirnak Serafettin Elci Airport in southeastern Turkey has been formally launched into operation, the country's General Directorate of State Airports Authority, DHMI, said.
The airport, built for some 120 million Turkish lira ($62 million/47 million euro), has the capacity to service 500,000 passengers per year, DHMI said in a statement on Saturday.
The airport has a 3,000 metre landing strip suitable for international flights.
The Sirnak Serafettin Elci Airport is the 50th operational civil airport in Turkey, according to information on the website of the DHMI.
The country's air passenger traffic rose 15.1% to 66.5 million in the first half of 2013 and is expected by the DHMI to reach 140 million by the end of the year.
