ISTANBUL (Turkey), August 26 (SeeNews) – Turkey's Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) said on Tuesday it has asked the bidders in a tender for the implementation of a long-range air and missile defence system to extend the validity of their bids until December 31.
Due to its complex nature, the project requires a detailed examination of various issues such as the infrastructure that needs to be set up, the joint production areas and technology transfer, among others, SSM said in a statement, adding that negotiations under this process are underway.
In September 2013, SSM selected China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corp (CPMIEC) as the winner of a tender for the implementation of the defence system and started contract talks with the company.
According to local media, CPMIEC’s competitors in the tender were Italian-French firm Eurosam and US Raytheon Co.
