SKOPJE (Macedonia), October 12 (SeeNews) – The number of tourists staying in Macedonia rose by 15.0% year-on-year in the first eight month of 2018, reaching 821,417, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
The number of domestic tourists rose 14.5% year-on-year to 324,836 in the January-August period, whereas the number of international visitors increased 15.3% to 496,581, Makstat said in a statement.
The number of overnights spent by tourists in Macedonia in the review period grew 16.1% to 2,493,637. Tourist overnights spent by Macedonian citizens rose 14.8% to 1,432,476, while foreign tourists spent 1,061,161 overnights, up 18.0%.
In August alone, the number of tourists increased 12.2% on the year to 211,746, while tourist overnights grew 15.0% to 881,806.
Of the total number of foreign tourists who visited Macedonia in August, 20.0% came from Turkey, 8.0% from Serbia and 7.8% from Poland.
