SKOPJE (Macedonia), November 12 (SeeNews) – The number of tourists staying in Macedonia rose by 14% year-on-year in the first nine month of 2018, reaching 930,128, the country's statistical office said on Monday.
The number of domestic tourists rose 14% year-on-year to 352,658 in the January-September period, whereas the number of international visitors increased 13% to 577,470, Makstat said in a statement.
The number of overnights spent by tourists in Macedonia in the review period grew 15% to 2,753,957. Tourist overnights spent by Macedonian citizens rose 14% to 1,516,125, while foreign tourists spent 1,237,832 overnights, up 16%.
In September alone, the number of tourists increased 4.4% on the year to 108,711, while tourist overnights grew 7.3% to 260,320.
Of the total number of foreign tourists who visited Macedonia in September, 11.3% came from Turkey, 8.0% from Poland and 7.3% from Serbia.
