SKOPJE (Macedonia), November 17 (SeeNews) – Three foreign companies have placed bids in a tender for the supply of 202 double-decker buses for Macedonia's public transport, the Transport Ministry said.
The bidders are: the Chinese company Zhengzhou Yutong Group, Bulgarian-based King Long, and Alexander Dennis Ltd from Great Britain, the ministry said in the statement on its website on Monday.
The winner must deliver at least one-third of the ordered buses by the end of 2011, the ministry said without elaborating.
The Transport Ministry has previously called several tenders for the supply of 302 double-deckers but all of them have failed as the candidates did not meet the requirements.
Skopje, a city of some 700,000 people straddling the Vardar river, uses outdated and air-polluting buses as its sole means of public transport.
