March 4 (SeeNews) - Some 2,500 Romanians rallied in front of the government building in Bucharest on Sunday to protest against a government decree amending justice bills, which they believe is weakening the country's fight against corruption, a SeeNews reporter saw.
Another 2,500 people marched peacefully in the cities of Iasi, Cluj, Timisoara, Brasov and Oradea, local media reported.
A week ago, justice minister Tudorel Toader said the government will revoke the provisions of the decree allowing judges to head prosecuting units.
The emergency decree approved at the beginning of the month by the Social Democrat-led government, has sparked criticism from judicial officials, the European Commission, president Klaus Iohannis and opposition parties who said the new measures aim to increase political control over the judiciary.
Last Sunday, some 15,000 Romanians rallied across the country to protest against the decree.
