September 21 (SeeNews) - Telekom Romania said on Monday that it has inaugurated two hosting data centres (HDC) in the northwestern city of Cluj-Napoca, following a 3.5 million euro ($4.12 million) investment.
The two data centres in Cluj-Napoca have a total hosting capacity of over 300 racks, Telekom Romania said in a press release.
"As a leader in this sector, our HDC offers customers the safest and most reliable hosting space in Romania, together with a wide range of communication services, to ensure all the needs in terms of business continuity in case of disaster," Telekom Romania CEO Miroslav Majoros said.
The two new centres in Cluj-Napoca add to the six existing ones in Bucharest and Brasov.
Greek telecom group OTE, in which Deutsche Telekom is the largest shareholder, is present in Romania since 2014. OTE's units in Romania - fixed-line operator RomTelecom and mobile operator Cosmote - were rebranded as Telekom Communications Romania and Telekom Mobile Romania, respectively, in September 2014.
Telekom Communications Romania is majority owned by OTE with 54%, while Romania's communications ministry holds 45.99%. Telekom Mobile Romania is owned by OTE Group member Cosmote Mobile Communications with 69.9%, Telekom Romania Communications with 30% and other minority shareholders.
Telekom Romania adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose by 5.4% year-on-year in 2019, reaching 143.7 million euro..
