January 31 (SeeNews) - Telekom Austria said on Tuesday its Serbian unit Vip Mobile reported earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of 38.8 million euro ($41.7 million) in 2016, down 10.7% on the year.
The EBITDA decline was chiefly due to a 9.1% increase in total expenses caused by higher costs of equipment, interconnection, selling and marketing, Telekom Austria said in its financial statement for 2016.
Vip Mobile's total revenue rose by 5.0% year-on-year in 2016 to 221.1 million euro, driven by higher equipment revenues, the Austrian company said.
Mobile service revenues declined by 7.1% year-on-year due to the changed distribution model which led to a different accounting treatment as well as lower roaming income, partially offset by the higher monthly and interconnection fees, Telekom Austria added.
In the fourth quarter of 2016 alone, the EBITDA of Vip Mobile fell by 19.5% on the year to 8.3 million euro and total revenues rose by 2.6% to 60 million euro.
