July 17 (SeeNews) - A1 Telekom Austria Group said its Croatian unit, formerly Vipnet, recorded a 6.8% year-on-year growth in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) to 66.6 million euro ($74.7 million) in the first half of 2019.
The revenues of A1 Croatia rose by an annual 1.4% to 208.6 million euro in the six months through June, A1 Telekom Austria Group said in a half-year financial statement on Tuesday.
In the second quarter of 2019 alone, A1 Croatia reported EBITDA of 34.9 million euro, up 7.2%, while revenue edged up 0.3% to 106.5 million euro.
"Total revenues in the Croatian segment rose slightly by 0.3% year-on-year, driven by higher service revenues. Mobile service revenues grew due to higher subscriber numbers driven by the demand for mobile WiFi routers and successful promotional activities. Fixed-line service revenues showed a modest growth, driven by higher solutions & connectivity revenues due to a higher number of satellite RGUs," Telekom Austria said.
The number of wireless subscribers of A1 Croatia rose to 1.852 million at the end of June, up 2.8% on the year.
In October 2018, the Croatian unit of A1 Telekom Austria said it changed its name to A1 Croatia from Vipnet. Telekom Austria Group decided in 2017 that A1 will become a unique brand for all its subsidiaries, including Vipnet on the Croatian market.
On the mobile segment in Croatia, a market of around 4.3 million people, A1 Hrvatska competes with the local unit of Swedish telecommunications group Tele2 and with the wireless arm of Hrvatski Telekom.
