October 31 (SeeNews) - Telekom Austria said its Macedonian subsidiary one.Vip posted a 73.8% year-on-year growth in EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) to 20.2 million euro ($22.1 million) in the first nine months of the year.
The Macedonian unit's proforma EBITDA, which includes the effects of merger and acquisition transactions executed during the last 12 months, increased by 5.4% to 20.2 million euro in the period under review, "as 7.3% lower total costs and expenses more than compensated for the total revenue decline," Telekom Austria said in its financial statement for the period January-September issued last week.
"The savings in total costs and expenses were mainly driven by lower administration expenses," the company said.
One.Vip's total proforma revenues fell by an annual 4.6% to 88.4 million euro in the first nine months of 2016, "which was mainly attributable to a decline in fixed-line service revenues," according to the statement.
In the third quarter alone, revenues fell by 7.0% to 30.3 million euro.
The results of the third quarter 2016 reflect, in addition to operational developments, one-off effects and the impact of the merger of Vip operator in Macedonia and the third largest operator in the country, ONE, consolidated as of 1 October 2015, Telekom Austria said.
One.vip's subscribers decreased 6.7% on the year to 1.13 million as at end-September.
One.vip competes with T-Mobile Macedonia, part of Deutsche Telekom, on a market of some two million people.
