TIRANA (Albania), September 25 (SeeNews) – Albania's electronic and postal communications authority, AKEP, said it has selected Telekom Albania as winner in a tender for the right to use frequencies in the 800 MHz band.
Telekom Albania has offered 7.44 million euro ($8.2 million) for the use of the frequencies, AKEP said in a press release earlier this week.
“Rights of use are granted for the purpose of building terrestrial communication networks in order to provide electronic communications services throughout the territory of the Republic of Albania,” AKEP noted.
At the end of 2018, Vodafone Albania had a 47% share of the country's mobile telecommunications services market of 2.7 million people, on which it competes with Telekom Albania and Albtelecom, according to AKEP data.
In May, Bulgaria-based Albania Telecom Invest completed the acquisition of 99.757% of Telekom Albania, held by Greece’s OTE Group, for a total gross equity consideration of 50 million euro ($57.2 million).
Albania Telecom Invest is owned by Bulgarian businessman Spas Roussev and by Albanian-Bulgarian investor Elvin Guri. Roussev is also chairman of the supervisory board of Sofia-based telecoms group BTC trading as Vivacom.
